10 Outdoor Spring Cleaning Projects

Spring cleaning isn’t always exciting for most of us. But it should be done. As the winter end and we start looking forward to spring and warmer weather, something inside of us tells us to get our homes in order by cleaning, organizing and throwing away things we’ve hoarded throughout the winter.

But who says spring cleaning is only for the interior of a house?
The exterior of your home could use a little refreshing after a cold, dreary winter, too!

It’s Time For Home Exterior Cleaning

Here are home exterior cleaning projects that will drastically improve the appearance of your home in Escondido, and, more importantly, will provide much-needed maintenance and care that will save a lot of money over the years ahead.

1. Gutter Cleaning

Spring is the optimal time of year to clean out your gutters, since so many of leaves and debris accumulate in the fall and winter. Pollen is at its highest in spring, making a big mess in your gutters and downspouts if they aren’t properly cleaned.

Plus, bugs and animals are scavenging for places to build homes in spring, so getting your gutters cleaned out will help to prevent an infestation in your home.

Gutter cleaning consists of cleaning the inside and outside of your gutters, removing mold, mildew and rust stains and restoring them to a like-new appearance.

2. Window Cleaning

Home window cleaning is a must for spring cleaning. Ground floor windows shouldn’t cause you too much of an issue, but second and third floor windows will be tougher to reach.

Cleaning windows by hand is an exhausting job, and will require a lot of tools, not to mention going up and down a ladder! A soft wash or professional cleaning of your home’s windows is the best solution to get the panes and the outer frame clean.

3. Pressure Washing

You don’t want clean gutters and windows on a dirty house. That means you will want to pressure wash your home too!

Pressure washing is fast, effective and affordable. You can pressure clean your house, patio furniture, patios, wood and stone porches and walkways with very little effort. It will eliminate dirt and mud so they won’t stain your home, and you can prevent the spread of mold, mildew and allergens.

4. Driveway Cleaning

Clearing off your home’s driveway and giving it a good cleaning may seem counter-productive since you will just be driving on it, but, a clean, maintained driveway can increase the curb appeal of your home.

A professional pressure washer can do wonders when it comes to driveway cleaning, whether it’s concrete, asphalt, stone or another material. Also consider adding a gravel or mulch border to your home’s driveway to really help it stand out!

5. Patio Cleaning

Your home’s patio gets the most use throughout the summer, so it can be easy to overlook it in the winter since you aren’t doing any outdoor entertaining, leisure or grilling. Your patio can be in pretty bad shape the first time you walk onto it in spring.

Soap and water – and a little muscle – can sometimes be enough for patio cleaning, but if there are signs of mold or algae, you need to consider a more aggressive option, like power washing, to ensure that friends and family can enjoy your patio all summer long.

6. Roof Cleaning

Algae and moss are common home roof problems in Escondido. While you are cleaning the exterior of your home, it’s a great time to pressure clean your home’s roof as well, but you will need to use a different method than what you use for most of your home’s exterior.

If you start to notice streaks on your home’s roof, algae is most likely the cause. Moss is usually obvious, too. These particles cannot be wiped off shingles, nor can you pressure wash the roof of your home. Both of these methods will damage the shingles on your home’s roof.

The best method for roof cleaning is to spray the shingles with a half-bleach, half-water solution and then leave it be. This solution will eliminate all organic organisms on your home’s roof without reducing its lifespan.

7. Spruce up the Front

The front of your home is likely what most people see, so try to make the best impression possible for visitors and for yourself! Coming home to a well-maintained exterior will immediately improve your day, and will probably motivate you to spend a lot more time outdoors.

You can clean your porch with detergent and water or a good pressure wash. Clean cobwebs and dirt off of the front door, and think about painting it for a fresh look! Clean overlooked areas like the porch ceiling, light fixtures and ceiling fans, too.

8. Organize Garden Tools

You will probably be spending more time outdoors, so spring is a wonderful chance to organize everything you will need for outdoor chores.

Yard tools as well as pool care equipment should all have an assigned area outside your home – a place that it is safe from weather and out of sight so it isn’t a constant eyesore. Spending the time to organize in the spring allows you to appreciate the exterior of your home so much more during the time of year that you spend the most time outdoors.

9. Lawn Care & Landscaping

Your yard, trees and garden bushes can make a major impact on the overall look of your home.

Get rid of weeds near the exterior of your flower beds and walkways, till up places where you will be planting in the future and sweep off walkways. You can spray pre-emergent weed poison to make lawn maintenance easier on yourself throughout the next few months. Trim all bushes too.

10. Clean the Grill

After being unused for months, your gas or charcoal grill could use a good cleaning, too. Leftover grease and food particles from your grill are unappetizing, but even worse they can make you and your family sick.

Wipe it down to get rid of ash, then scrub the grates with a plastic scrubber (so you don’t leave behind particles that can get into food) and a detergent or degreaser.

You could probably finish these projects after a few weekends but it will be a lot of hard work. Instead, give us a call! Escondido Pressure Washing provides professional residential exterior cleaning services for driveway cleaning, patio cleaning, pressure washing, roof cleaning and more!
